2022 Madison Baseball Coaching Staff 

Brian Weingart

Head Coach

Coach Weingart is entering his third season as head baseball coach at Madison High School. During Coach Weingart's second season the dodgers broke 3 school records, including 125 stolen bases. Kyle Piechnik, a Senior outfield earned 2nd team All Group II honors, the first such honor in recent seasons for  Madison. 

Prior to coaching at Madison Coach Weingart spent the previous five seasons as the head coach at Mendham High School.  In 2019, the minutemen saw their record improve to 13-7 and a number 4 seed in the very competitive North II Group 3 section.  The 13 wins was 5 wins more than the previous two season, while the number 4 seed was the highest for the Mendham team since 2016. 

Coach Weingart attended Cranford High School where he was second team all-state, first team all group and all county player.  Coach Weingart was the catcher for the 1997 Group III State Champion Cougars, their first state championship in over 25 years and was inducted into the Cranford High School Hall of Fame as a member of the 1997 baseball team. 

Coach Weingart attended the University of Delaware and William Patterson University becoming an All-Conference player for the Pioneers in 2001.  During his college playing career, Coach Weingart attended IMG academy in Bradenton, FL where he was an All-star. After college Coach Weingart played for the Broxton Rox of the Can–Am independent baseball league.

In 2012 Coach Weingart returned to Cranford High School as an assistant varsity baseball coach from 2012 – 2016.  During Coach Weingart’s stay at his alma mater the varsity baseball team won 2 group III state championship, including a #1 finish in 2013. In addition, the team won 4 sectional championship and 2 Union County championships during that time.

Johnny Costa

Assistant Varsity

Coach Costa graduated from Madison High School in 2013 where he was a two year starting Shortstop.  Johnny was named First Team All-Conference in 2012 and 2013.  He helped lead his team to a State Sectional Championship in 2012.  He went on to study at Kean University.

Coach Costa was a 4 year Varsity letter winner in Wrestling and was a Wrestling Coach for Madison High School from 2014-2020.

Coach Costa started his Baseball coaching journey in 2015 as a Freshman Coach for Madison High School.  He was an Assistant Varsity Coach from 2016-2019.  He helped coach the team to two State Section Titles (2018 & 2019).  He is looking forward to joining the staff again this 2022 season.

Jason Izsa

Assistant Varsity

Coach Izsa has a  bachelors degree in Physical Education and Health from Montclair State along with a masters degree in Sports Administration and Coaching from Concordia University – Irvine

Freshman Baseball Coach – Madison High School 1999-2004, 2018-present.

Coach Isza has extensive coaching experience over the last 20 years in both Madison and Chatham.  Coach Izsa was an assistant football coach at Madison from 1999 - 2008 and at Chatham from 2010 - 2012. Coach Izsa was the head baseball coach a Madison from 2005 -2009 and the head football coach at Chatham from 2013 - 2017.  Coach Izsa also served as the junior varsity baseball coach at Chatham from 2011 - 2017. Coach Isza is in the second term as freshman baseball coach at Madison having held that position from 2004- 2009 and again since 2018 to present. Coach Izsa will once again be on the varsity level for the 2024 season.

Coach Izsa lives in Madison with his wife Sandy and their dog Foster. We love the town and everything that it has to offer. In my free time I like to fish, hike, exercise and read.

Michael Yendrick

Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Yendrick has been coaching at Madison High School for 17 years. Prior to coaching at Madison, coach Yendrick coached at New Providence High School for 3 years. 

 

 Coach Yendrick is currently teaching his 17th year of Physical Education at Central Avenue School.

Brian Dorflaufer

Freshman Baseball Coach

Coach Dorf brings eight years of both high school and club experience to the Madison Baseball staff. 

 

At the high school level, Coach Dorf has coached, most recently, at West Orange High School. Prior to that, Newark Academy and Glen Ridge were two other Essex County schools where Coach Dorf had varsity coaching experience.  Ranging from freshmen coach (West Orange) to varsity assistant coach (Newark Academy and Glen Ridge) and then working as a head coach on the basketball side of things at Verona High School. In addition to coaching both baseball and basketball at the high school levels, Coach Dorf has been a part of club baseball with the NJ Nationals. 

 

No matter high school or club, Coach Dorf focuses on skill development, development of players' IQ in-game, and lastly, in-game coaching for high school level players of all levels.

 

Furthermore, Coach Dorf was born and raised in Livingston, NJ as well as being a current resident! He is in his sixth year of teaching in the Cedar Grove School District. He teaches both history and STEM/Technology. A graduate of Livingston High School, he attended the University of Missouri as an undergraduate earning a degree in political science. Furthering his education, he obtained two masters: one at Montclair State University then at New Jersey City University (NJCU). Coach Dorf holds a masters in both political science and computer science.
